An energetic musician and educator, Amanda Lyon holds a Master of Arts degree in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa where she studied extensively with renowned flutist, Nicole Esposito. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Amanda is a Florida native and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Flute Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Kim McCormick at the University of South Florida. In addition to her educational studies, Amanda has performed in masterclasses and workshops with prominent artists including Walfrid Kujala, Jim Walker, Sarah Jackson, Aaron Goldman, Gary Schocker, Horacio Parravicini, Nicola Mazzanti, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Geralyn Coticone, Alberto Almarza, and Francesca Arnone.
Amanda has become known for her excellent collaborative skills with other musicians, performing in such ensembles as the Rose City Flute Choir, "ARTrio" Woodwind Trio, "Armada" Flute and Bassoon Duo, and the Florida Flute Orchestra. Prior to moving to St. Petersburg, Amanda maintained a healthy performing schedule that included directing the Gulf Coast Flute Choir, and playing flute and piccolo in the Sarasota Concert Band, Florida Wind Band, South Shore Symphony Orchestra, wedding performances, and various solo and pit orchestra work. She was a substitute piccolo player for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. In previous years, Amanda has performed with the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, the Jim McDonough Orchestra, and Distinguished Concerts International New York. Amanda has also worked as a recording artist with Pro-Series Elite Practice System and the Walt Disney Company, Celebrate You Program.
Amanda was previously the Band Director at Center Montessori School in Bradenton, Florida, and has worked at Nolan Middle School, Griggs Music, Marion Music Academy, Senior Center of Iowa City (New Horizons Band), West Music Company, and Paul Effman Music Service. Professional memberships include the National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, and Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity for Women.
Amanda performs on the Miyazawa Vision and the Hammig Piccolo.
Personal Note: The website name, "flutiecutie," is in memory of my amazing mother, who began using it as my nickname when I was in middle school. I could never have achieved so much without her love and support. She passed away from cancer in 2009 at a young age of 55 years. I miss her every day.
